This week’s meditation is on Matthew 26:39:
39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
Dear Lord in heaven, so often it is hard for us to do your will. Like Paul said, I know what I want to do, yet I still do what I don’t want to do. This is a daily struggle when the worries of the world fall upon us. We know what we should do and yet we fail to do it so often.
But Lord, Jesus gave us the ultimate example of how to obey your will when he was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Facing torture and death he agreed to do your will even though he longed for another way.
Dear God, I know that I will never have to face what Jesus faced that night in the garden, but I pray that when I feel temptation, or when I feel the urge to say something I know I shouldn’t, that I will think about the sacrifice your son made in the garden and it will give me pause.
Lord, give me the strength to resist temptations, and the courage to do what I know is right in the face of opposition. I hope and pray that I will always say “your will be done.”
I ask this in Jesus’ holy name.
Amen
