Monday Meditation: Luke 1:68-69

This week’s meditation is on Luke 1:68-69:

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
for he has visited and redeemed his people
69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of his servant David,

Heavenly Father in just a few short days we will be celebrating the birth of your son, and our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we anticipate the day that you gave us this remarkable gift I pray that people will not lose sight of what this day really means.

Many of us will be gathering with our families, and for some people Christmas is just a day off from work because they do not know you. The meaning of this day is lost on them.

This is a glorious time of the year and yet it is a busy time filled with distractions for even those of us who do believe. Many of these distractions come from the commercialization of this day.

Lord help us to put away the distractions and focus our thoughts on you. And Lord, for those who do not know you I pray that over this season they will feel something stirring within themselves and will begin to question. I pray that they will start to think and to wonder what this day is all about.

And Lord, I pray that those of us who believe will be in the right place, and will have the courage to minister to them over this Christmas season.

I ask all of this in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
