This week’s meditation is on Ephesians 4:22-24:

²² to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, ²³ and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, ²⁴ and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Heavenly Father, this is the time of the year when many of us make resolutions to improve ourselves, only to break them or forget about them in the coming weeks. So I am coming before you today, not with a resolution, but with a prayer.

Lord I pray that in the coming year you will give me the strength I need to continue to renew my spirit and to put on my new self. I cannot do this alone, none of us can, that is why these resolutions always fail. But when I allow you to move within me God I know that I will continue to work on my making new self created after the likeness of God in righteousness and holiness.

Help me to be transformed by a renewal of the mind. Lord, continue to create in me a new heart, help me to be the man you want me to be. Lord, save me from myself.

I ask this in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
