Today’s meditation is on Ephesians 4:29:
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Heavenly Father, I pray that no corrupting talk ever comes out of my mouth. Yet I know that so often when the pressure comes from outside that the tongue is often hard to guard. Words escape before I have time to think about what I am saying. But, sometimes I pause because I know I shouldn’t say something, and then I go ahead and say it anyway.
Please, Lord, forgive me.
I feel that sometimes we think to ourselves that these are just words, and they don’t do any real damage, but James tells us just the opposite. He warns us that the tongue is a fire and a world of unrighteousness. Jesus tells us that the mouth speaks what is from the heart.
So Lord, remind me to speak only righteous words, help me to stop myself before I say something I shouldn’t say. Help me to be an example to those around me.
I ask this in Jesus’ holy and precious name. Amen
